Bridge Across The Pond Presents
BULL IN A CHINA SHOP
by Bryna Turner
At Empire Stage

Directed by Gary Solomons

This fast paced contemporary comedy explores the real-life romance and revolutionary careers of Mary Woolley and Jeanette Marks. Spanning nearly 40 years (1899-1937), the story is inspired by actual love letters between the two women. The play follows Woolley, a radical feminist, who became president of Mount Holyoke College in 1901, as she attempts to reform the institution from a “seminary for pious wives” into a university where women’s education is valued on its own merit.

The strain on the relationship is examined as the couple deals with their own political ambitions and radical stances as well as the societal pressures of living as a lesbian couple in the early 20th century.

Critic’s Pick! “A pugnacious, tender and gloriously funny play…..passionate, joyous and radiant with life!” – The New York Times

Great time at the naked comedy show! Handsome, funny and talented young men!! Not bad on the eyes!! Too bbad my 83 year old Mother was laid up in the hospital! It was her idea to see the show!!!! Greeted warmly by the host with free wine and many laughs as he warmed up the audience dressed in drag and full of wise cracks! Check it out if you get the chance!!!

Absolutely delightful and intimate Blackbox theatre where you see and hear everything. Plenty of parking everywhere. The lobby boasts couches to sit on and wait, snacks to buy, and a certain feeling of being in a real hip theater.
