present CABARET (1998 Version)

Book by Joe Masteroff
Based on the play by John Van Druten and
Stories by Christopher Isherwood
Music by John Kander Lyrics by Fred Ebb

At Empire Stage
Directed by Larry Buzzeo

Set in the tawdry Kit Kat Klub of 1930s Berlin, the story follows the carefree and self-destructive Sally Bowles (Alexandra Van Hasselt) and her relationship with American writer Cliff Bradshaw (Chad Raven). Their world of dazzling performances and fleeting pleasures is set against the backdrop of a society on the brink of collapse, as the rise of fascism closes in and the cabaret’s escapism becomes increasingly fragile. This production is known for its edgy, immersive style and striking contrast between the glitzy nightclub numbers and the sobering political realities outside its doors. With its mix of show-stopping ensemble routines, haunting ballads, and the enigmatic presence of the Emcee (Larry Buzzeo), the 1998 version emphasizes both the allure and the danger of losing oneself in a world of denial. The result is a theatrical experience that is as entertaining as it is unsettling, leaving a lasting impression on audiences with its powerful themes and unforgettable score.

What Our Audience Has To Say About Us!

This place was FABULOUS! We saw “The Golden Girls, thank u for being a friend” best and funniest show we ever saw. Owner could not have been nicer. We will definitely be back! Also location is terrific, so close to great restaurants, etc

Great time at the naked comedy show! Handsome, funny and talented young men!! Not bad on the eyes!! Too bbad my 83 year old Mother was laid up in the hospital! It was her idea to see the show!!!! Greeted warmly by the host with free wine and many laughs as he warmed up the audience dressed in drag and full of wise cracks! Check it out if you get the chance!!!

Absolutely delightful and intimate Blackbox theatre where you see and hear everything. Plenty of parking everywhere. The lobby boasts couches to sit on and wait, snacks to buy, and a certain feeling of being in a real hip theater.
